So what types of effects fall into the category of “Street Magic”?

The popular choice these days seem to be various impromptu card tricks (tricks are often referred to as “effects” as well). Simply because many people associate cards with magic and they are easy to carry around. Other types of magic that lends itself to impromptu street magic performances are effects utilizing: money, rubberbands, coins, certain types of mentalism / psychokinetic effects etc.

By the way, there are plenty of gaffed or gimmicked effects that are very applicable for street performances. Many tend to shy away from these, but I have to admit that you are often able to create far more magical looking effects with these than with a plain deck of cards.

If you ever go on YouTube, you see an overwhelming amount of effects like the Ambitious Card Routine, where a chosen card jumps back to the top of the packet no matter where you place it in the deck; and 2-Card Monte, a 2-card version of the favorite street con game with 3 cards along with a few other tricks popularized because of David Blaine’s many television specials…
