What are the title and author for a children’s book published in the 1980’s or earlier concerning a magic coin?
When I was a kid in the 1980’s, I read a book that told the story of a little girl and boy. The boy had received a supposedly magic coin for a gift, but the family friend, a supposed former witch, said that it was not magical. Still, the boy became attached to the coin, taking him over like the one ring from Lord of the Rings. The girl cares for him and tries to get him to take it off. I can’t really remember anything else about it but I would like to find this book again. There is no reason to think that this was a popular book, that makes this quite difficult. It’s set in modern(ish) America.

There was a book called "Half Magic" by Edward Eager.
I don’t know if it’s the same book or not, but the magic item was a coin which was only, ‘half’ magic, so wishes would only come partly true.
When I was a kid, I loved the series of Eager’s books.
Hope that was helpful!
